forward to fall

I'm ready for fall.  I think.  Not that I have a choice, because it's surely on its way due to the cooler weather.  I just don't like what comes after fall (you know, that nasty "s" word...).  I love the beautiful colors of the leaves, the cooler crisper air, pumpkins, carmel apples, hayrides, cider, bonfires, big comfy sweaters.......and I love these crafty images that make me super excited for fall!

rustic-ly glam

I forgot how much I love Restoration Hardware.  I mean, how can you NOT love the look of raw wood, industrial steel, worn leather, and crisp burlap all tied together in sophisticated yet rustic furnishings???  And their lighting is in a whole league of its own....  The fixtures are phenomenal!  Walking into the retail store the other day, I fell in love all over again.  *sigh*  Now all I need is to win the lotto.......or maybe any free donations??  Anyone?  Anyone?  Hmm, didn't think so...

...can't get over the vintage birdcage chandeliers...but oh, that tufted sectional...

...the lighting - didn't I tell you???  gorgeous!!!

...again, the crystal floor lamps!  along with the reclaimed table, the bookshelf & ladder, the leather sofa...

...I think by now everyone recognizes this factory cart table...check out the wooden light fixtures...

...love the vintage farm table and the printed burlap chairs...

...the concrete and wood table, worn leather chairs and weathered zinc pendants are the perfect combination...

...the worn wood of the baker's rack and salvaged wood island contrast well against the industrial pendant and barstools...

...ok, so I have a thing for domed chairs...but domed chairs in burlap and worn wood?  yum.  oh, and weathered zinc mirror = fabulous.

...coolest chair ever...copenhagen spitfire chair with paired with industrial tool chest console.  love!

...can a bedroom get any more romantical?  french four-poster bed, iron & crystal chandelier, ornate mirrors & artwork, soft bedding...

...epitome of masculine...iron & rope mirror makes for a great accent piece and the secretary trunk, chest and nightstand make such a statement!  These pieces are truly amazing in person...

...love the mixing of the two wood tones...mini glass filament pendants, wooden etagere and louvered shutters...

...modern with vintage touches...porthole mirrors, caged sconces, glass shelves, wire baskets...

warehouse wonder

Miami's Wynwood Walls, formerly a scrappy warehouse district, has been transformed into a cool and hip art park thanks to the genius of the property owner.  The owner offered the outside of the mundane industrial buildings to international artists who plastered them with bold murals and street art.  A corner warehouse was transformed into a restaurant, the Wynwood Kitchen & Bar.  The 4,000 square-foot interior and 1,000 square-foot patio sport vibrant abstract murals that keep in tune with the surrounding park.  Since the transformation, the area now attracts 700 artists and art lovers during their monthly gallery walks and is now becoming known for their A-list parties during Art Basel Miami Beach.

brent kee young: lampworking genius

Chuck and I love to stop in to art galleries and just browse around...  So what better weekend to do so than this long Labor Day weekend???  We had lunch for the first time at Michael Symon's B-Spot (ummmmm, holy crikey, New School fried bologna sandwich with Lola Fries!?!?) in Eton Collection (for all you Cleveland peeps), and decided to take a stroll to burn off the 1,537 just-consumed calories.  We've never been in the mall portion of Eton (for all you non-Cleveland peeps, Eton is mostly an outdoor mall) and came upon Riley Galleries, which I highly recommend checking out sometime.  They have some stunning pieces of artwork that really caught our eye, especially the work of Brent Kee Young who is a third-generation American Chinese artist who moved to Cleveland (from LA) to head up the newly formed Glass Department of the Cleveland Institute of Art.  He uses a technique called lampworking, in which he bends and curves heated quarter-inch rods of clear Pyrex glass into intricate forms.

Here are the pieces that are on display at Riley Galleries - these are from his "Matrix" series:

moody masculine

I understand the stereotypical "masculine" design style - dark wood, deep neutral colors, dim lighting - but I'm not sure if the style suits every male on this planet.  I know that it definitely suits Chuck, as he is always saying "turn off the lights!" and "close the blinds!" as if we're some type of mutants living in a hole underground.  I, on the other hand, prefer everything open and airy....let in the daylight, soft and flowy sheers, whitewashed furniture, bright and cheery fabrics.  I don't quite understand his thought process - I'll take a stab at it and say that he works outside in the sun all day, so I'm assuming that when he comes home he just wants to function in the darkness...  To each his own, literally!
